LOF POWERboost Defender Brake Servo Kit (late)

With Servo?:

The LOF POWERboost kit lets you replace the original brake servo on an early Land Rover 90, 110 or 130 (pre-300Tdi) with the later, stronger double diaphragm ABS servo, part number SJG100240. The LOF POWERboost ring bolts to the pedal box and lets you mount a later style master cylinder with the reservoir in the correct orientation.

Doubling the servo assistance reduces pedal effort and improves braking considerably. LOF's testing found braking to be noticeably better than an ABS Defender, and it works whether you run standard, performance or big brakes.

Key Features

  • Double diaphragm servo: Allows the later ABS servo SJG100240 to be fitted to an early Defender.

  • Correct orientation: Keeps the master cylinder and reservoir the right way round.

  • Lighter pedal, better braking: Doubles the servo assistance given to the master cylinder.

  • Works with any brakes: Improves standard, performance and big brake set-ups.

  • Servo options: Supplied as the adapter only, or with a TRW or Premier servo.

In the Kit

  • LOF POWERboost adapter ring

  • 2x M8 flanged nyloc nuts

  • Servo, if the TRW or Premier option is chosen

Specifications

  • Servo required: SJG100240 late ABS double diaphragm servo

  • Master cylinder required: LR013017 late ABS 2-port

  • Mounting torque: 25Nm (M8 fixings)

  • Servo pushrod adjustment: 7mm

Fits

  • Land Rover 90/110/130 early (pre-300Tdi), non-ABS – originally 2.5 NA, 2.5TD, V8 or 200Tdi

Good to Know

  • Options: No Servo is the adapter kit only. TRW Servo is the original equipment unit. Premier Servo is a quality aftermarket unit sourced by LOF.

  • Will it fit? Your Defender has no ABS, has 2 pipes from the master cylinder, has a horizontally mounted master cylinder, was built before about 1992, and was originally a 2.5 NA, 2.5TD, V8 or 200Tdi. See the product photos to confirm the master cylinder.

  • Despite '(late)' in the name, the current options are for early (pre-300Tdi) vehicles; the late ABS servo is what gets fitted.

  • You can use your own SJG100240 servo, new or second hand, but it must be a double diaphragm unit (two sets of crimpings). Some cheaper servos appear to have only one diaphragm.

  • Also needed: a new 2-port master cylinder from a late ABS Defender (LR013017) and new brake lines made to suit, running from the master cylinder to the bias valve on the bulkhead with front and rear ports matched correctly.

  • Tools: 10/11/13/14mm spanners, 13mm socket and ratchet, flat-blade screwdriver, a pick or small screwdriver for the split pin, brake fluid and brake line making equipment.

  • Fitting is involved and needs re-piping of brake lines. Only attempt it if you are competent working on brakes, make sure the rest of the braking system is in good order, bleed thoroughly, check for hydraulic and vacuum leaks and recheck your work.

  • Fit the ring using the forward-most, clockwise set of counterbored holes. Once installed the studs should sit at the 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock positions viewed from the front. Tighten servo and master cylinder fixings to 25Nm.

  • The servo pushrod is pre-set; it can occasionally be adjusted with a 7mm spanner or socket, and only minimal adjustment is needed.

  • This is a performance modification. Braking will feel very different, so drive accordingly. Correct and safe fitting is the installer's responsibility.
